(Merchant Shipping)

New Delhi, the 5^th May, 1991

             G.S.R.479(E).--- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1), read with clauses (a) and (b) of sub-section (2) of section 74, of the Merchant shipping Act, 1958 (44 of 1958), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage Measurement of ships) Rules, 1987, namely :-- 

            1.         (1)        These rules may be called the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage Measurement of Ships) Amendment Rules, 1992. 

                        (2)        They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 

            2.         In the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage Measurement of Ships) Rules, 1987 

                        (i)         in rule 2, clause (s) shall be omitted. 

(ii)         in rule 10, for the word and figure "Schedule 1" the word and figure" appendix VII" shall be substituted." 

(iii)        in rule 13, for the word and figure "Schedule II" the word and figures "Appendix VIII, shall be substituted. 

(iv)        for Appendix VIII, the following Appendix shall be substituted, namely:--

 (a)        Measurement for issue of International Tonnage Certificate (1969) or Indian Tonnage Certificate. 

(i)  First measurement of an Indian ship or a foreign ship;

 Re-measurement including under deck tonnage volume.
Ships less than 20 mtrs. in length                                        

Ships 20 mtrs. in length & above                                                

For each 100 tons or part thereof of the gross tonnage

(ii) Re-measurement not involving under deck                         tonnage volume.

(d) Measurement of Suez Canal and Panama Canal Tonnage :                      

(i) For first measurement of a ship for Suez Canal or Panama Canal Tonnage Certificate.                                              

(ii)For a Suez Canal and a Panama Canal Tonnage            Certificate if the measurement are made at the same time.   

(iii) For re-measurement of a ship following alteration in other than under deck.

(v) For supply of details of Suez Canal or Panama Canal  Tonnage Calculations to the owner.
