            Lectures on the following topics shall be given :--

 

            1.         Poisoning : by alochohol, drugs, gases etc.

 

            2.         Veneral diseases. Alcoholism. Mental illness.

 

3.         Medical emergencies: Coronary thrombosis, stroke, pncumonia, diabetes, heat stroke, haematemesia, etc.

 

4.         Surgical emergencies : appendicitis, peritenitie bowel obstruction, urinary obstruction.

 

5.         Trepical and infectious diseases. (Malaria, dysentery, typhoid, small pox, specific fevers, etc).

 

6.         General hygiene.  General nursing.  Emergency childbirth.

 

7.         Medical advice by radio.  Signs of death, Medico-legal inquiries relating to death at sea.

 

8.         Description of medicines carried in scale II ships, with particular reference to the use of life saving drugs.  Antibiotics.  Sulpha drugs, morphia etc.

 

 

9.         Practical demonstration shall be conducted on the following :

 

1.         Treatment of the poisoned patient Method of use of the stomach washout.

 

2.         Preparation of smear slides for VD.  Testing of urine with "Clinistrix" Restraint of the violent patient.

 

3.         Observation of the patien.  "Temperature, pulse and respiration recordings. Simple nursing techniques. Injection. Control of pain.

 

4.         Dressing of woulds and burns using the 'no tough' technique.  Suture of wounds.  Incisiona of abscess.

 

5.         Treatment of a phycia.  Resuscitation, respirater and cardiac (revision). Use of breathing apparatus in rescue operations from ships tanks etc. Oxygen.

 

6.         Sterilisation of instruments.  Disinfection.  Film on emergency childbirth.

 

7.         Advanced nursing techniques—positioning of the patient in bed.  Administration of Juid enemas.  Washing of the patient. Cold spongine etc.

 

8.         Removal of foreign body from the eye.  Application of eye drops and ear drops.  Miscellaneous minor procedures.

 

 

NOTE:              Cinema films appropriate to the medical demostration should be shown when possible.
