DUTIES OF THE DIRECTOR, SEAMEN'S EMPLOYMENT OFFICE:-

  • To issue license, to regulate and control the recruitment and placement service, and to -

o       ensure that no fees or other charges for recruitment or placement of seafarers are borne directly or indirectly or in whole or in part, by the seafarers;

o       ensure that adequate machinery and procedures exists for the investigation, if necessary, of complaints concerning the activities of recruitment and placement services; and

o       to maintain registers of seamen in respect of the categories of seamen

o       Cancellation of registration of seafarers in various categories.

  • To perform such other duties relating to seamen and merchant ships as are, from time to time, committed to them by or under the Merchant Shipping  Act 1958
     

DUTIES OF ASSTT. DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SHIPPING

1.         Administrative and Establishment matters of officers and staff of Headquarters and its Allied Offices - Accounts and Budget work.

2.         Development of Indian Shipping-Processing of proposals for acquisition of ships, scrapping of ships, licensing of ships, chartering of ships, provide secretarial assistance to national Shipping Board.

3.         Matters affecting Merchant Shipping and Navigation and Administration of Merchant Shipping Law and Act.

4.         Regulation of Ocean freight rates in overseas trade-Proposal for Bilateral Shipping Agreement and Ratification of International Convention.
