General letter

No.11-TR(45)/2004                                                                          Dated: Sept 9, 2004

To

All Pre-sea Training Institutes

 Sir,

It has been brought to the notice that due to high fees prevalent in various pre-sea marine courses, trainees are finding it difficult to join Merchant Navy.  It has also informed that some of the banks are giving loans o such students on a soft loan basis.

The Directorate is trying to work out a suitable policy paper before taking up the issue with banking institutions on the subject.  It is therefore necessary to collect relevant information from the training institutions regarding (a) number of cases where loan has been availed by the trainees (b) period and the interest rate charged by the bank, etc. (c) type of security taken by the bank (d) time taken for loan and (e) any suggestions by training institutions.

The above information may may kindly be furnished with 10 days of the receipt of the letter.

Yours faithfully,

sd/-
