Subject : Lifting the ban on Ship Security Officer's course |

2. As per the recommendations of the Committee, in continuation of the Training Circular No.5 of 2007 dated 23.08.2007 & in continuation of M.S. Notice No.15 of 2003 dated 19.06.2003, Training Circular No.34 of 2004 dated 7.12.2004, M.S. Notice No.20 of 2003 dated 18.08.2003, M.S. Notice No.32 of 2003 dated 24.11.2003, and in supersession of M.S. Notice No.2 of 2004 dated 15.03.2004, the Director General of Shipping & Ex-Officio Additional Secretary to the Govt. of India, has decided to lift the ban on the new approvals/increase in intake of Ship Security Officers [SSO] course, subject to following conditions : i) The proposals for new approvals/increase in intake of the SSO course from only those maritime training institutes who are conducting management level competency courses for more than 1 year's duration, will be processed. ii) The faculty team should include one visiting faculty of officer level rank, as an expert from Navy, NSG, Coast Guard, Army, BSF, etc. who would teach topic 5 & 7 of Annex II of Training Circular No.34 of 2004. iii) All the existing approved institutes are required to comply with the faculty requirement as mentioned at para 2(ii) above.
