National Institute of Open Schooling [Formerly known as National Open School] is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary & Higher Senior Secondary course examinations, through open and distance education.

     The Director General of Shipping has decided to recognize the certificates issued by National Institute of Open Schooling [NIOS] at par with the certificates issued by other Boards such as Central Board of Secondary Education [CBSC] & Council for Indian School Certificate Examination [CISCE], subject to the fulfillment of criteria of age & % of marks laid down by this Directorate vide M.S.Notice 24 of 2002, or as amended from time to time or issued under circular/orders and/or guidelines by this Directorate.
