Representations have been
received in the Directorate from many approved maritime training institutes
for relaxation of faculty norms regarding their teaching or sailing
experience, due to shortage of the faculties. The matter was discussed in
the 22nd Collegium meeting. As per the recommendation of the
Collegium, the Director General of Shipping & Ex-Officio Additional
Secretary to the Govt. of India, in partial modification of all earlier
relevant circulars/orders, has waived the teaching and/or sailing
experience required for the approval of the faculty teaching the subjects in
pre-sea - officer level courses. It has been decided that the officer
holding the Certificate of Competency as MEO Class I [FG] or Master [FG] can
teach the relevant marine subjects of pre-sea officer level courses.
Similarly, no teaching experience is required for the approval of the
faculties teaching the non-marine subjects, but the educational
qualification requirement shall be as per UGC/AICTE norms.
