Guidelines for conducting Pre-sea Training and Certification of |

1. IMO in its Manila Conference held in June, 2010 adopted a fresh set of amendments to the STCW 78 as amended in 1995. These amendments concerns with new education, training and assessment programmes for the increased Electro Technology /Control Engineering, Computerization etc. which have invaded modern ship design, construction, instrumentation and operation. These amendments also concerns with new certificates of Competency /Proficiency that need to be issued by the Directorate to a new category of technically qualified and trained officers /crews that are required to be generated to man merchant ships of today and tomorrow. 2. Considering the amendments to include training and certification for the Electro-Technical Officers, the Director General of Shipping has formulated the Guidelines for Pre-sea Training and Certification of Electro-Technical Officers for Merchant Ship, which is enclosed herewith. 3. The processing fee for the said course is fixed as Rs.50,000/- which is required to be paid alongwith the proposal for the approval of the course. 4. The above guidelines shall come into force w.e.f. the date of issue of this guideline. 5. This issues with the approval of the Director General of Shipping and ex-officio Addl. Secretary to the Government of India.
