Lateral entry to 2nd year for the 4-year Marine Engineering Degree

2. After carrying out the detailed studies and to give an opportunity to those students who have passed first year from the engineering colleges in other streams like Mechanical, Electrical and Marine Engineering or holding 3-Year Diploma in Marine/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering stream from AICTE or State Board of Technical Education approved colleges, it has been decided by the Director General of Shipping that they can join the 2nd year of Marine Engineering Degree course in the institutions approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, provided they fulfill the following :- (a) The candidate should be less than 22 years of age on the day of commencement of 2nd year Marine Engineering degree course; (b) The candidates joining after completing 1st year of Engineering Course from colleges approved by AICTE should have passed in all the subjects with minimum 50% of marks in individual subjects; (c) The candidates joining after passing 3-Year Diploma course in Mechanical/ Marine/ Electrical Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education, should have passed with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma course.

Including the seats filled up by the above lateral entry, the
total capacity of the 2nd year should not exceed the total number
of seats approved for the Institute by the Director General
of Shipping. A list of such students should also be forwarded
within 15 days of the commencement of 2nd year course to the
Directorate. Otherwise these candidates will not be accepted
for entry into Merchant Navy or examinations by the Directorate.
The records of the above boys should also be created on the
same line as in proforma 'A' and 'B' and to be forwarded to
the Training Branch of this Directorate for approval.
