1.                  As the shipping Industry and the seafarers are well aware, the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention have entered into force on 1st January 2012, through the Tacit Amendment Procedure as laid down in the STCW Convention.

 

2.         In view of the above amendments to STCW Convention, the structure and specification for Engine Room Simulator Course for Marine Engineer Officer - Class I, Class II & Class IV has been carried out by the DGS in consultation with the training institutes and employers (ship owners and manning agencies).

 

3.         The structure and specification for Engine Room Simulator Course is attached as:
 

Annexure I     -  Engine Room Simulator Course - Diesel Engine Combustion Gas Monitor Simulator 

   Course (MEO Class I)

Annexure II   -  Engine Room Simulator Course (MEO Class II)

Annexure III Engine Room Simulator Course (Operational Level)           

 

4.         It is expected that training institutes would follow these guidelines in letter and spirit.

 

5.         The above revised course curriculum shall come into force on 1st June, 2012 for new batches.  

 

6.         This issues with the approval of the Director General of Shipping and ex- officio Additional Secretary to the Government of India, under the power  conferred in the Chapter IX Rule 47 of Merchant Shipping (Standards of Certification & watch – keeping for Seafarers) Rules, 1998.
