Sub: TRANSMISSION OF FALSE SHIP SECURITY ALERTS | |
|
1. The DG Commcentre has received 35 false ship security alerts from ships over the period from 01 July 2004 to 02 February 2005. In some cases, neither the Commcentre nor the CSOs have been successful to establish prompt and immediate contact with the concerned ship. In one case, the M-4 phone in the Master’s living quarters was not answered. 2. All CSOs are hereby directed to treat this as a very serious matter, inform all Masters/ SSOs accordingly to take all adequate measures deemed necessary to ensure that no such false ship security alerts are activated inadvertently. This is with reference to Solas Chapter XI-2 Regulation 6, 4. 3. These measures may include the installation of cover/ guard plates over the SSA alert button to prevent accidental transmission of ship safety alerts. Any changes made on board would have to be reflected in the SSP. 4. Concerned with the frequent generation of false Ship Security Alerts transmitted, the Directorate shall conduct a fact-finding inquiry to ascertain the cause at the concerned ship owner’s cost, which may lead to the cancellation of the International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) of the vessel followed by a re-audit by the Directorate’s representative. 5. Attention is invited to the D.G. Shipping website www.dgshipping.com wherein the necessary guidelines on maritime security are hosted for information. The D.G. Commcentre will not entertain any requests whatsoever on the matter. 6. It may be noted that all security related communications are to be addressed ONLY TO THE DG COMMCENTRE AT THE BELOW CONTACTS: DG (S) Commcentre
