The Directorate has received various queries with regard to servicing of life rafts of Indian manufacture. The following are the clarification on the subject matter.

1. Life rafts of Indian manufacture which has a type-approval of the Directorate shall be serviced only in DGS approved service station.
2. The Indian manufacturer is allowed self-certification of their product by the competent person who has been approved by the Directorate. They must comply with the procedure as stipulated in NT Branch circular No.NT/LSA/01/06 dated 8.2.2006.
3. The life raft of the Indian manufacture shall not be serviced by any other service station unless until such service station has an authorization from manufacturer. In such cases, the servicing of the life raft shall be done under the supervision of MMD surveyor.
4. In the cases where the Indian manufacturer has not authorised any service station for servicing of his life raft in any Indian port, the servicing in such port can be undertaken by any service station as per the customer’s wish under the supervision of  MMD surveyor.
