Subject : Attendance in preparatory course in lieu of updating and refresher course for revalidation of Certificate of Competency.

    In accordance with MS (STCW) Rule 10 and section M-I/10META Manual attendance in refresher and updating course is one of the requirements to establish continued professional competence. Syllabus for updating and refresher course for different grades of competencies has already been prescribed. The issue of recognizing attendance, in post-sea preparatory course as equivalent to updating and refresher course, had been under consideration of the directorate for some time past. It has now been decided that candidates need not attend updating and refresher course for revalidation of 2nd Mates/NWKO (NCV) and Mates Certificate of Competency (FG or NCV) if they had already attended post-sea preparatory course for Mates and Masters (FG or NCV) examination respectively.  

These orders will be effective from 1^st May 2005.  

This issues with the approval of Chief Examiner Master and Mates.
