Subject: Carriage of Immersion Suits – Clarification – Regarding.

  
1.   In continuation of NT Branch Circular No. NT/LSA/03/05 (reference 14-NT (7)/2003, dated 6th December 2006) following clarifications in super session of NT Branch Circular No. NT/LSA/05/06, dated 11th July 2006 are hereby issued as under: 

                     i.        All cargo ships, other than bulk carriers as defined in SOLAS Reg. IX/1 are exempt from requirement of carriage of  Immersion Suits as stipulated in SOLAS Reg. III/32.3.2, when constantly plying on or around the Indian coast including:

a.    Arabian Sea upto Southern Boundary formed by parallel of 6 Deg. South between 60 Deg. East & 68 Deg. East meridians.

b.   “BIMMS” (Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Maldives & Sri Lanka) area.

c.    Within the enclosed water of Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf upto 30 Deg. North limit.

d.   Within the enclosed waters of Gulf of Aden and Red Sea upto 30 Deg. North limit.

e.    In Bay of Bengal including Andaman & Nicobar Islands and in Singapore Strait upto 105 Deg. East limit.

 

                   ii.        The watch or work stations considered remotely away from normal stowage of Immersion Suits as required by SOLAS Reg. III/32.3.3, are considered to be as follows:

a)    Navigation Bridge and Engine room, where at least two additional Immersion Suits each are to be provided.

b)   Near forward or aft life raft as required as per SOLAS Reg. III/31.1.4 – at least 6 additional Immersion Suits are to be provided.

 

2.   The NT Branch Circular No. NT/LSA/05/06, dated 11th July 2006 hereby stands withdrawn.
