1.       Details of Assessment of approved sea going service have been provided in Section M-II/11 of META Manual Vol.-I.  It has been observed that there is no provision of assessment for sea going service performed on a ship less than 500 GT for obtaining next higher grade of Certificate of Competency.   

2.      The matter has been examined in the Directorate.  It has been decided that the Certificate of Competency holders working on the ships between 300 GT and 500 GT shall be eligible for assessment of sea going service for the purpose of the examination.  The sea service performed a such ships (i.e ships between 300 GT and 500 GT) shall be considered at the rate of two third of the actual sea going service but limited to maximum of 9 months. 

3.       The term ship here includes the Trading ship as well as non Trading ships.

             This is issued with the approval of Chief Examiner of Master and Mates.
