Sub: SHIP SECURITY ALERT SYSTEM-POWER SUPPLY

 
  1. Attention of all is invited to para 3.2 of DGS circular No: NT/ISPS/COM/06/2004 dated 1st July 2004. on the above subject, where in the requirement with respect to source of electrical power was addressed.
  1. Ship Security Alert system accepted by the Directorate should be used on board Indian ships as a requirement under Regulation 6 Chapter XI – 2 of SOLAS Convention 1974 as amended. Such equipments should meet the requirement as mentioned in para 1 above.
     
  1. Consequent to several queries from ship owners, equipment suppliers and other agencies concerned, it is clarified that:

3.1   The power source for ship security alert system should meet the following:- 

a)   The main source of electrical powers implies that it is from the ship’s main line given for radio equipments. 

b)   If the equipment functions at a higher or lower voltage / amperage than the ship’s main supply, in such a situation the step up / down stabilizing / battery charging unit should be approved by the manufacturer for that product only and the necessary test report should be made available to confirm such acceptance.  

c)   Reserve power supply implies that such power supply shall be from the independent battery of the system.  

The shipowner, managers are advised to comply with the above at the earliest.
