Subject : Warning regarding Piracy/Armed Robbery incidents on the coast of Somalia


1.       There have been numerous incidents of piracy, hijacking, armed robbery and kidnapping of the seafarers for ransom on the Coast of Somalia involving Motor Vessels and Sailing Vessels.  International Maritime Organization and International Maritime Bureau has also issued warnings to this effect.

2.       The owners, operators and masters of all Indian ships including sailing vessels and fishing vessels are hereby cautioned not to enter in to this region and to keep their vessels well clear of this region preferably keeping a safe distance of at least more than 200 nautical miles from the coast. Those who violate the instructions and decide to operate their vessels in these waters would be doing so at their own risk only.
