M.S. Notice 3 of 2000


Subject : Extra Masters' Certificate of Competency

In continuation with the Section M-II/4 of the Merchant Shipping (Standard of training Certification & Watch-keeping for Seafarers) Rules , 1998, and based on the deliberation of the Extra Master's Board it is resolved that :-

(a) Para 4 of Section M-II/4 to read as, "a candidate who holds a degree in physics and mathematics as principal subjects or a degree in Nautical Sciences, and any other candidate who in the opinion of the Chief Examiner concerned has attained equivalent standard, will be eligible for exemption from Part A course and examination.

(b) Para 7 of Section M-II/4 to read as, "a candidate who holds a Certificate of Competency as Master of a foreign-going ship and also holds a Master of Science degree in Maritime Safety Administration or Maritime Education from the World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden, will in lieu of the four parts given in paragraph 2 above, be required to successfully complete only the following :-

(i) Part B - Naval Architecture, Navigation

(ii) Part C - Marine Environmental Studies" ( c ) The provision mentioned above shall be applicable to all candidates with effect from the effective date of application of the Merchant Shipping (STCW) Rules, 1998. This issues with the approval of the Chief Examiner of the Extra Masters.
