Subject: Maritime Security Advisory to ships/vessels transiting Gulf of
            Aden

For the attention of Ship Owners, Ship Managers, Shipping Agents, Ship Masters, Charterers, Ship Builders, Ship Breakers Associations, Classification Societies recognized by Directorate General of Shipping, Non-exclusive Survey Companies, Insurance Companies, Coastal State including Administrators of Union territories / Islands and Maritime boards, Major and Minor Ports, Sailing and Fishing Vessels Associations, Allied Offices of Directorate General of Shipping, National Hydrographic Office (NHO):

In continuation to MERCHANT SHIPPING NOTICE NO. 14 of 2009 dated 26th February 2009, wherein the Directorate had emphasized and impressed upon all Indian flag ships transiting the area strictly to strictly avail convoy protection.

Media reports today indicate specific threats to Indian ships and Indian seafarers by Al Qaida type groups in the Gulf of Aden and on the Somali coast.

The Director General of Shipping reiterates that all Indian ships and ships with Indian crewmembers are not to transit the piracy affected areas in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters without the Indian Naval Escort services.
