Reference
is made to all those concerned with the Structured Shipboard Training Programme
for deck cadets conducted by approved Institutes, the guidelines for which
have been promulgated in
M.S.Notice No.30 of 2002 dated 27th November, 2002.
Kind attention is invited, in particular, to para 5 of the said Notice No.30
dealing with the "Role of the Assessment Centre".
2. LBS College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research has been designated
as the Assessment Centre to monitor the quarterly progress report of every
participant in the 2-year Structured Shipboard Training Programme. In this
connection, it is clarified that the "Endorsement" is to be issued
by the Assessment Centre only in respect of those cadets who have completed
the SSTP Progamme to the satisfaction of the Institute with effect from
the date of the M.S.Notice No.30 of 2002 viz. 27th November, 2002. The cadets
who have completed the Structured Shipboard Training Programme to the satisfaction
of the approved Institutes before this date i.e. the 27th November 2002
are not required to produce the said "Endorsement" from the Assessment
Centre, LBS CAMSAR to the Mercantile Marine Department in order to determine
their eligibility for the Second Mates Examination. In the latter case,
the Institutes' certificate only is required to be accepted by the MMDs
for establishing the eligibility of the candidates. Any further clarification
in this connection, may please be obtained from the Chief Examiner of Masters
& Mates.
