The certificates of competency granted to
the Officers under Chapter II of the M. S. (STCW) Rules 1998 are required
to be revalidated in accordance with Chapter I - Rule 10 (2) of the stated
rules. Further, reference is invited to Section M-I/10 Para 2 of Maritime
Education, Training and Assessment (META) Manual Volume I. Reference is
also invited to Appendix M-I/10B of Maritime Education, Training and Assessment
(META) Manual Volume II, on the above subject.
2. The first revalidation course in accordance with Appendix M-I/10B as
above will commence in June 2003 at the Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advance
Maritime Studies & Research (LBS CAMSAR). The course curriculum is attached
herewith as
Annex I. The format of
the Certificate to be issued by the training Institute on satisfactory completion
of the course is attached as
Annex IA.
3. The maritime training institutes already approved for Chief Mate and
Master's (FG) courses are eligible for conducting the above-referred (new
revalidation) course. However, they are required to apply for the approval
to the Directorate giving details of the faculty members having adequate
background and experience meeting the Annexure requirements.
4. Officers, who have not upgraded their certificates of competency to STCW'95
standards, shall comply with the requirements contained in Appendix M-I/10
for respective grades. However, where the requirements of a 10 days / 5
days Refresher and Updating Training is contained therein, they may undergo
the course curriculum as contained in
Annex
II, prior to being admitted to the Revalidation Course as contained
in Annex I. The format of the Certificate
to be issued by the training Institute on satisfactory completion of the
Annex II course is attached as
Annex
IIA.
