This Directorate has been receiving several queries from Seafarers, Shipping Companies and Training Institutions regarding the period of validity of certificates issued under STCW '95. Most of the queries pertain to the following mandatory STCW courses :-

1. Basic training courses under Regulation VI/1 of STCW '95.
2. Advanced training courses under Chapter VI
3. Certificates of Competency issued under Chapter II, III and IV of STCW '95.
4. Training and certification under Chapter V of STCW '95.

In view of the amendment to STCW '95 vide IMO Circular No.STCW/7/Circ.1 dated 24th September 1996 and IMO Circular No.STCW.6/Circ.5 dated 30th May 2002, where the interpretation and guidelines in respect of revalidation requirements of various certificates are clarified, this notice with the enclosed table is issued for information and guidance of all concerned.
