PRODUCT ALERT - UNISCAPE 15H

This product alert is distributed to all Unitor's customers having purchased the emergency escape breathing devise UNISCAPE 15H.

The new SOLAS amendment MSC.99c (73) requires ships to be equipped with emergency escape breathinbg devices (EEBD's). Unitor introduced the breathe easy Uniscape 15H as a solution to meet these regulatory changes. The successful introducion has led to the result that a majority of ship owners have chosen the Uniscape 15H as the product of choice. Uniscape 15H is manufactured by MSA and distributed by Unitor.

We regret to inform you that we have discovered some problems with the Uniscape 15H in that a limited number of devices contain defects, which may cause small leakage of air from cylinder.

By following the manufacturers instruction manual for operation and maintenance, no adverse effects to the functioning of the sets will occur. However, we are handling the matter with the greatest urgency considering our policy of promoting maximum safety and providing the best products available.

As possible leakge can easily be detected by inspecting he position of the indicator needle on each unit. The needle may be in either the red or the green area. If he needle is in the red area the device should be re-filled. If afer re-filling loss of pressure re-occures, contact Unitor through your normal channels for check and repair.

We strongly recommended you to immediately check all units in your possession for pressure loss and take appropriate actions as described above. Like any piece of complex equipment the Uniscape 15H will perform to the highest standars of expectation only if it is used and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Repair or replacement of defective parts will be at no cost to you, provided that warranty applies and that the Uniscape 15H has been handled in accordance with all applicable regulations and guidelines as well as Unitor's instructions.

Based on the experience gained and for safety reasons, we emphasize the importance of complying with applicable provisions regarding handling, location, care and use of Uniscape 15H and to comply with all enclosed instructions provided by Unitor and applicable rules and regulations. We particularly stress the importance of inspecting the Uniscape regularly. Forthermore, Unitor recommends all customers to carry out annual checks of Uniscape 15H by a Unitor approved service station, as stated in the instruction manual.
