As per the Merchant Shipping (Standards of Training Certification and
Watchkeeping for Seafarers), Rules 1998, Flow Diagram No.4, with regard to
certification of MEO (Near Coastal voyage), candidates are required to
appear for the written and oral exam after 6 month of sea services with
T.A.R. Book. However, it is observed that the approved Institutes are
conducting the written examination for MEO Class IV (NCV) immediately
after the completion of 3 months Course covering A III/ 1 read with
A-1/3.
In partial modification in the
procedure for training, examination and assessment in Flow Diagram No.4,
the written exam for MEO Class IV (NCV) can be conducted immediately after
completion of the course at the approved Institutes, however the oral
examination are to be conducted by MMD after the candidate performs the
requisite sea service with the T.A.R. Book.
