Engine Circular No. 40

NO: ENG/EMMPT/SOLAS-32(1)/2004

Dated October 20, 2004

Sub: Requirement of Administration Approved Lifeboat Falls on Indian Ships

As per SOLAS, 1974 Chapter III, all equipments and arrangement are required to be approved by the Administration.

Indian Flag Vessels requiring to change Lifeboat Wire Falls are facing difficulties in certain countries, as they may not be readily available.  Keeping in view of the above, the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai has decided that whenever there is a requirement to change the Lifeboat Wire Falls at a port where such wire falls, duly approved by the Administration, are not available, such cases may be referred to the Chief Surveyor with the Govt. of India along with all relevant certificates of the wire falls for scrutiny/approval.

The wire fall, which is being procured, should be at least tested, approved and certified by one of the members of the IACs.
