Subject:- Implementation of the revised guidelines on effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plants.

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Resolution MEPC. 159 (55) on “Revised Guidelines on Implementation of  effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plants” was adopted on 13^th October, 2006 and has entered into force from 1^st January 2010 (a copy of the resolution Marne Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) 159 (55) is attached for easy reference). All shipping companies, ship-owners are advised to strictly adhere in implementing the revised guidelines for all equipments which are being installed on board Indian ships on or after 1^st January 2010.
     For consideration of type approval of the Sewage Treatment Plant, the Recognised Organisations (R.O’s) must ensure that the capacity of the plant is adequate to cater the cumulative needs of the personnel onboard and that the effluent standards is in conformity with the IMO resolution MEPC. 159 (55).
