In partial modification of the Directorate General of Shipping's
Order No. 2 of 2002 (No. SD-13/POL(5)/2001 dated 02.05.2002) on 'Revised
Guidelines for Registration of Ships etc.', paragraph 4 stands amended
as under :
Paragraph 4 : When the ship is acquired abroad, the present practice of
granting provisional registry to the ship by the Indian Consular Officer
shall continue. In addition, the attending Surveyor of the Mercantile
Marine Department/Indian Register of Shipping is also authorized to issue
Provisional Certificate of Registry. The Registrar of Ships shall send
detailed message including procedural guidelines to such attending Surveyor.
The sighting of Carving and Marking and endorsement of "Carving and
Marking Note" may be done by a Surveyor of the Mercantile Marine
Department, Indian Register of Shipping or of any Classification Society,
which is a member of International Association of Classification Societies
(IACS).
These amendments to DG Shipping Order No. 2 of 2002 shall come into force
with immediate effect.
