Sub: Issuance of CDC to ex-Coast Guard Ratings

Whereas Rule 4(2)(iv) of M.S. (CDC) Rules, 2001, as amended from time to time, enable ex-naval ratings upto the age of 45 years to obtain CDCs and to join the Merchant Navy. 

Whereas the Section M-I/II of META MANUAL VOL-1 provides for recognition of seagoing service of the Coast Guard ratings at par with the Indian Naval ratings.   

Further, the Coast Guard ratings also follow the same pattern of training on the Coast Guard vessels as the Indian Naval ratings on the Naval Vessels. 

As per the representation made by Coast Guard Headquarters an ex-Indian Coast Guard rating is not enabled to obtain CDC under M.S (CDC) Rules, 2001. 

Now, therefore, the Director General of Shipping & ex-officio Addl. Secretary to Govt. of India, considering the above request, and in terms of powers conferred by Clause (1) of Section 456 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (on the Central Government) read with notification issued by the Government of India vide S.O No.3144 dated the 17th December, 1960 delegating the said power to him, is pleased to include the Indian Coast Guard ratings under Rule 4(2) (iv) of M.S. (CDC) Rules, 2001, along with Indian Naval ratings, and accordingly amended Rule 4(2) (iv)  shall now read :

  (iv) for ex-naval rating &    for ex-coast guard         upto 45 years

The other terms and conditions for issuance of CDC as applicable to ex-Naval rating shall apply mutatis mutandis to the Indian Coastal Guard rating under M.S (CDC) Rules, 2001, as amended from time to time.

 This order comes into force with immediate effect.
