Sub: Restricted CDC to naval officers for temporary attachment to merchant navy ships | |

Whereas from time to time the Indian Navy has been proposing names of naval officers on deputation for temporary attachment to merchant navy ships. AND whereas such deputations are proposed so that the naval officers can gain knowledge and experience on all aspects of operations of merchant navy ships. AND whereas such deputations are for a specified period. AND whereas such officers cannot sail on board a ship unless they are issued Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC). Now, therefore the Director General of Shipping and Ex-officio Addl. Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Shipping, exercising the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Section 456 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 read with notification issued by Government of India vide S.O. No.3144 dated 17th December, 1960 delegating the said power to the Director General of Shipping, is pleased to issue this order enabling the serving naval officers to be granted CDC by the Shipping Master by production of a letter from the concerned Naval Command specifying the name of the ship, the ship owner / agent and the period of deputation. That on expiry of the period of validity of the CDC, the same shall be deposited with the concerned Shipping Master. This order comes into force with immediate effect.
