It has been brought to the notice of this Directorate by the seamen and Seafarer's Unions that the seamen on the company roster of Shipping companies, especially those which have become defunct or are not in existence, face difficulties in obtaining Registration Cancellation Order on account of medical unfitness from the Director, Seamen's Employment Office, since SEOs insist on medical unfitness certificate from the Company's Medical Officer. 2. The matter has been examined in this Directorate and it has been noted that where the shipping companies have become defunct or non functional it would not be possible for the seafarers to obtain medical unfitness certificate from company Medical Officer. Therefore in all cases where the Medical Unfitness Certificate, issued to a seamen by a doctor, who is included in the panel of Medical Examiners, approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, may only be accepted for the purpose of cancellation of registration of a seamen, irrespective of whether the seaman belongs to a company roster or general roster.
